The Vancouver Urban Farming Network is an informal group of urban farmers, urban farming supporters, and food security advocates dedicated to increasing the sustainability of urban farming in Vancouver and throughout BC.
The Network was unofficially started in November 2010 at the inaugural meeting of urban farmers in Vancouver and has the support and funding from Building Opportunities with Business, the Vancouver Food Policy Council, The Real Estate Foundation of BC, Hastings Crossing Business Improvement Association, UBC, and SFU.
In January 2011, Vancouver urban farmers hosted Will Allen of Growing Power for an intimate Q and A session. This was followed up a week later with a brainstorming meeting to gather more ideas and insight into the role of the urban farming network.
In April 2011, urban farmers started holding monthly gatherings at urban farms throughout the city.
The Hastings Crossing BIA has received funding from the City of Vancouver to host the urban farming forum to support urban farmers and the budding urban farming network.
